Brightening with African Botanics

Brightening with African Botanics

I was first introduced to African Botanics through a luxe beauty sub box called Mintd. The Shower Cream was part of one months box and then the Hand Cream was part of another. My love affair with this brand started from there. I quickly began researching them, plotting my next product to try and then had the amazing pleasure of actually speaking with the brand co-founder Julia.

Her and her husband run this brand/business and they put their heart and soul into doing everything together as a family. All of their ingredients are sourced and products are made in South Africa and brought here for all of us to enjoy. As someone who is married to a business owner, I understand first hand how hard it is to run a business. Julia and her husband Craig personally fulfill orders and speak to their customers and retailers directly. They're a mighty team together! It's rare to have that in any business. And they do it all while raising 2 beautiful girls. I had the pleasure of meeting Julia and her girls on a recent trip to Los Angeles and she's just as incredible in person as she is on "paper".  So let me start with a review of a product that I just ran out of and I actually had a moment of panic! I couldn't wait to get another bottle because I love it that much.  I've seen incredible results from it. I also have a little Q&A with Julia at the end talking about this beauty.

First off, what an ingredient list! 3 forms of Vitamin C, Sodium Hyaluronate, Witch Hazel, Niacinamide, Peptides, Jojoba, Marula, Arnica, Pro Vitamin B5, Sea Kelp....you get the point. Beautiful ingredients that are all meant to hydrate gently, calm inflammation, increase cell turnover, brighten and refine the skins overall texture. It comes in a pump bottle so that you don't need to expose the formula to air and the pump dispenses the perfect amount of product.

This serum is super lightweight that it almost disappears after you apply it. It's very light and bouncy and you don't even feel it on once absorbed. It has an interesting scent that took me some time to get used to, but I could get over the scent because its performance is more impoeratnt to me. I have been applying it both morning and night (1 pump is enough for me) after toning and before moisturizer or oil. I find that it does a nice job hydrating and leaving my skin plump and bright. I mentioned before that I just ran out...that's after using it for 3 months 2x a day.

Results: After 3 months of consistent use, I can honestly say...I will always have this in my arsenal. I've noticed a significant change in texture and overall clarity in my skin. I found myself not even needing to apply a makeup primer because my skin feels incredibly smooth. I've also noticed a HUGE reduction in pigmentation. I suffered from serious hormonal breakouts which included plenty of cystic spots that left big red marks. I haven't found a product yet that has delivered like this one has. I started noticing results after 4 weeks. The three different forms of Vitamin C and the presence of Niacinamide along with amino acids and peptides have really brightened and plumped up my skin and the affects are extremely noticeable. I find myself using light coverage foundations or even tinted moisturizers these days because I have less and less that needs covering up and I owe it to this beauty. Everything from the light texture, super absorbency and incredible results makes this a true favorite.

While I used this product 2x a day, you can choose to use it in the mornings to help protect your skin against environmental pollutants. If you use it once a day, it will last you longer. I say this because I know it's an investment. If I were to invest in just one product, it would be a serum and this formula is phenomenal in my opinion.

Check out my Q&A with co-founder Julia and hear from her what makes this formula so unique and totally worth every penny.

Q&A:

Q. What led you to create this formula? What need were you solving for or hoping this formula would treat?

A: Nutritive Molecule Serum came to life after 2 years of research and development with our incredible team in South Africa. The serum was designed to be unique, functional and multi-purpose, using molecular science, very complex plant biotechnology with very distinctive approach to modern skincare. For years I wanted to have a super serum in my routine that would address pigmentation, skin oxidation, aging, skin volume, firmness, hydration and refined texture without blocking my pores, but what I found is that I would need to use 5 different products to achieve all that.

So we took a radical approach to our formulation for this serum and got really creative. We included cell-communicating plant peptides at maximum concentrations, intelligent collagen boosters, oil-soluble forms of Vitamin C, Marine Sea Kelp, Green Algae, Hibiscus, anti-inflammatory botanicals, unique delivery system and so much more addressing the signs of aging, reversing the signs of environmental damage and reducing uneven skin texture.

Q. What makes this formula so unique from others on the market?

A. Most antioxidant serums on the market are not very stable and loose their potency very quickly. For example water soluble Vitamin C known as L-ascorbic acid can irritate sensitive skin and can’t penetrate the dermis as well as the oil-soluble forms of Vitamin C can. We are using 3 types of Vitamin C in this serum, including Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid amongst other strong antioxidants. The potency, synergy of the ingredients and the texture is what makes it stand out.

Q. Your choice of ingredients always amazes me. What process do you go through when selecting them and creating your formulations?

A. It all starts with creativity, discovering unique ingredients and science. We read a lot of data sheets on the ingredients and select them based on scientific data, clinical trials and safety record and our own experience with them as well. Our products are filled with indigenous African botanicals, most of them are medicinal plants with amazing healing, soothing and moisture retaining abilities. We closely work with labs in South Africa, France and Switzerland, collaborating and learning about break-through actives, new extraction methods and anti aging technologies.

Q. Your formulas all have unique and distinctive scents. Do you strive to create a formula with a particular scent or it just happens naturally through your ingredients?

A. Thank you! We don’t have one specific scent running through our products. The ingredients speak for themselves in each product, so it just happens naturally.

Q. Your brand has already reached cult status for many, what would you consider your next level of success to be? What matters most to you when developing your formulas?

A. Keeping it real, listening to our customers and staying innovative with our products. We don’t have a marketing department that dictates to us what we should be making, our creativity leads the process.

I hope you enjoyed this post and learned a little about this product and brand. I plan on sharing a few more reviews of some other beauties soon!
