Jane Scrivner Introduction

Where do I begin to profess my love for Jane. She has over 24 years of experience and her main goal is to create products that give all of us great skin. She truly cares for each and every one of us that has experienced her products. What's not to love about that. I was fortunate to try 3 products from her and each one has blown my mind. I also had the pleasure to ask my favorite questions of Jane and her responses are just as I'd imagined...loving and passionate. Prepare to fall in love.

Nourishing Cleanser 100ml £46

Ingredients: Organic Jojoba Oil, Beeswax, Essential Oils of Ylang Ylang, Elemi, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Lemongrass, Lavender, Myrrh, Sandalwood and Sweet Orange.

If you love a balm cleanser that removes every trace of makeup, allows for a good facial massage and smells of a delicate summer breeze off the coast of Positano...then you'll love this. It has a beautiful creamy texture that melts with your skin, but doesn't turn into an oil.  It glides on and attracts dirt and oil as well as makeup and removes everything without a trace, leaving skin soft and supple. Jane includes a cotton mitt with each cleansing balm (forgot to photograph) that gives the skin a very light exfoliation as you remove the cleanser.

To give you an idea of texture, it reminds me a little of Emma Hardie except this has a bit more oopmh and weight to it.  I found Emma Hardie to have too much slip and it didn't fully wash off my skin leaving a slight film.  This cleansing balm melts off beautifully and skin is left super soft and hydrated. I've come to love this cleanser very much and look forward to using it. You know I love a product, when I try NOT to reach for it because I don't want to use it up. When I run out, I will 100% have a replacement waiting in my closet.  If you like a good balm cleanse, you must try it. It seems others are loving it as well because it was the Winner of the 2016 Beauty Shortlist BEST CLEANSING BALM Category.

Skin Elixir 30ml £29

Ingredients: Organic Jojoba Oil, Essential Oils of Ylang Ylang, Elemi, Eucalptus, Frankincense, Lemongrass, Lavender, Myrrh, Sandalwood and Sweet Orange

This silky facial oil is extremely light and perfect for any skin type, especially oily or combination. I've professed my love for anything that has a Jojoba Oil base because Jojoba oil is the closest to our natural sebum and helps to balance and control oil production and leave skin feeling supple and hydrated.  This formula is absolutely beautiful. The essential oils are perfectly balanced and the scent is very faint.  I found this elixir perfect both as a morning moisturizer mixed with an SPF or alone as it keeps skin incredibly balanced and is perfect under makeup. At night, it's perfect on top of a retinol, underneath a moisturizer or just on its own if you are on the oilier side.  if you're looking for a balancing hydrating light face oil, give this a go.

OO Cream £39 100ml

Ingredients: English spring water aqua, oat kernel extract avena sativa (o), aloe vera aloe barbadensis, sun flower helianthus annus (o), shea butter butyrospermum parkii (o), cetearyl alcohol (emollient from coconut), argan argania spinosa (o), rose hip extract rosa canina (o), white birch betula pendula, glyceryl stearate (Coconut origin emulsifier), calendula calendula officinalis, phenylethyl alcohol natural (ecocert preservative), coco glucosides (coconut and fruit sugar thickening agent), eye bright (euphrasia officinalis), orange citrus aurantium (o), palmarosa cymbopogon martini, rose geranium pelargonium graveolens (o), tocopherol vitamin e, rose absolute rosa centefolia, vanilla vanilla plantifolia, benzoin styrax benzoin, sodium phytate (salt form of the corn derived phytic acid), sodium hydroxide, (alkaliser made by leaching ashes to maintain PH balance of materials) benzyl alcohol (plant derived preservative), *citral *euganol *geraniol *citronellol *farnesol *linalool *limonene *benzyl benzoate *benzyl cinnamate. *naturally occurring components of essential oils.

The day I received this magic pot of sunshine, will be the last day I'll be without it.  I immediately found this bouncy cream a necessity in my life.  It's meant to go over a face oil and seal in all the moisture, nutrients and deeply hydrate, calm and nourish the skin.  It claims to mattify, hydrate and protect.  It has collagen stimulating, beta-glucan rich colloidal oatmeal, calming argan oil and aloe gel and betulinic acid to tone and clarify.

The texture of this cream is a mix between a face oil, a cream and water.  It's not heavy or greasy, instead it feels almost like a fluffy mouse-like texture.  All you need is literally a pea size for your entire face and neck.  It glides on beautifully and leaves skin feeling comforted and moist.  While it claims to mattify, I personally don't experience that...but I honestly don't care.  I wear this cream at night over a face oil and my skin just looks like it has a healthy glow post appliation.

By morning, my skin feels super soft.  It's honestly changed the way my skin feels in as little as a week.  I used to wake up and my skin felt a little tight or thirsty...not after using this cream as a topper.  I love how it's helped balance and rejuvenate it. Being a face oil lover, there isn't much to put on top that won't just sit there and not absorb.  With this cream, there's no second guessing. It's the perfect complement over a face oil or even on its own. The OO cream is my unicorn and will forever have a place in my closet.

Without further ado, I'm so happy to share my favorite 5 questions with Jane herself.

Q. What inspired you to create your brand?

A. There was never really a light bulb moment to create a brand, I had spent a long time working in Spa’s around the world, teaching facials and body work and had been exposed to many, many different ingredients which were pretty much always the local oil – so Morocco was Argan, Chile was Rose Hip and the USA was Jojoba and in each and every situation it was always the best version because it was local and fresh.

It was this rich seam of ingredients that I saw nourish skin in front of my eyes and I couldn’t really leave them alone – coming home to the traditional English creams didn’t seem enough for my skin.  I think I’m saying that I created the products because I wanted to have them for myself!  I honestly never considered selling them, maybe using them on my clients but never actually selling them.

Q. Which ingredients do you feel are the power players?

A. Well, no surprise but absolutely definitely the CORE oils.  I term them Core because traditionally they are called base, vegetable or carrier and for me this says that they are the ‘thing’ that you put the important ingredients into – BUT for me they are the ‘thing’.  Essential oils are beautiful and have a great role to play, but at 1% - 1.5% maximum in any facial blend this means we have 98.5% of the other stuff – I’m the ‘other stuff’ girl.  I want core oils with their lipids, their omegas and their EFA’s to feed and nourish the skin, to protect and maintain the acid mantle and repair and regenerate the barrier function.  Healthy skin is what I’m after, healthy, nourished skin and I can do this with core oils.

Q. Is there a particular type of skin you created your products for?

A. Honestly?  My skin!  I just wanted the best ingredient with the optimum nutrition to feed my skin and keep it healthy.  Meaning I could look into the mirror anytime and think ‘skincare, DONE’ ticked off the list, looking fab, don’t need to give it a second thought’ BUT this should apply to everyone at any age, to be able to look in a mirror and think ‘skincare? Tick’

Keeping skin healthy by its very nature means ultimately you can solve any ‘skin situation’ so even though I don’t have huge skin issues, it doesn’t mean I haven’t formulated a range that can’t deal with them.  I truly believe that with the right combination of core oils and naturals, you can solve any skin problem or condition – you may need to address diet, and I don’t mean calorie diets I mean skin food diets – but in combination and over time- not overnight – I believe these ingredients really work to repair, protect, nourish and replenish.

Q. If you could choose one start product from your collection, what would you choose and why?

A. Well, that’s an easy one.  The NOURISHING CLEANSER.  It was the only product I ever thought I would formulate so it had to work hard.  It’s a cleanser, a decongestant.  It can be a massage oil/balm and it can be an overnight masque.  It can work beautifully on cracked heels and dry elbows, it can melt down and be painted and it can be applied cold.  It’s a one stop, gorgeous product and I’m so proud of it!   Don’t even start me on the fluffy mitt…..

Q. What would be the ideal skincare routine using your products?

A. Well that’s easy. I do my ideal routine every day.  I do keep it simple BUT I take my time and do something in between each step – just for a few seconds, to let them absorb and prep for the next layer.

*FACIAL OIL – Lucky Dip, massaged in slowly – slowly takes maybe 30 seconds but it’s enough.

‘OO’ CREAM – just a glance over the oil.

Dry Skin Brush legs and arms

FIRM BELIEVER Definitive Body Serum briefly massaged into legs and arms.

Dress, make up if wearing, Go!

Once or twice a week;

MASQUERADE Face masque – normally whilst watching a film so it stays way longer than it need to but gorgeous all the same.

Once a week;

WARM ORB facial, using only the NOURISHING CLEANSER but this is the most divine deep nutrition for my skin.

A bath in any of the BODY BATH OILS – dependent on mood!

*FACIAL OIL – Lucky Dip.  Because it’s my brand and because I can, I have a bottle of every one of our facial oils in my dressing room, in a white box, so when I take the lid of the box I can only see the lids – which are all the same.  This is fabulous because it means over the week, when I randomly draw an oil, it means I get a perfect mix of all the oils, all the nutrients and all the ‘purpose’ of the products.  I get Balancing, Nourishing, Hydrating, Anti-Aging, Firming, Toning, and Calming.  It also means I use all of our products so I keep aware of how the harvest has changed the texture, feel, application, absorption, smell and how the blend is behaving.  It also means I get every aspect of skincare – covering all bases -  my own personal ‘skinsurance policy’.

Q. Where do you see your brand going in the future?

A. I only want to formulate a product that I see having real worth.  I feel very comfortable about it staying small and definitely not ‘going lab’ which I see a lot of brands, they get successful, they grow and then they get the formulation done by laboratories to speed the process and then they lose the very reason they came about in the first place.  So whilst my shareholders may not like to hear (!) We are staying small but beautifully (hand) made.

We have gaps in our range right now which I am working on and hope to have by the end of this year (and trialling in the above routines and it is sooooo tempting to say but I just can’t)  I hope when they are out that they make perfect sense and have earnt their place in our line-up.

We are going places but we’re taking tried and trusted CORE ingredients with us.  And we’d like to be in the USA – if only we can find a fabulous distributor that shares our values and integrity.

How beautiful is this woman! I can't get enough of her answers.  If you've been waiting to try something from Jane, I hope my review of these 3 products helped you make a decision.  You can purchase directly from her here and she makes it super convenient to order from her...even if your from the states.
